The bus was carrying 30 students when it crashed into a tree on South Street in Waltham around 10:32 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office reports.

The bus was performing a routine route from the Boston and Cambridge area, with one of the stops being a hockey game at Northeastern University, the office continued.

One student, identified as 25-year-old undergraduate Vanessa Mark, was pronounced dead. All remaining students, as well as the 57-year-old driver, were taken to local hospitals for various injuries, the office added.

"We have been in touch with Vanessa's family and will continue to stay in contact with them in the coming days," Brandeis University's President Ron Liebowitz told the community. "We will keep you updated about ways we will honor Vanessa's memory."

The university canceled classes fro Monday and Tuesday following the incident and will also be offering additional support for students. Liebowitz encouraged students to visit or contact the Brandeis Counseling Center at 781-736-3730.

The Dean of Students Office, the Office of Graduate Student Affairs, and the Center for Spiritual Life will be open Monday through Wednesday. A vigil was also held in Mark's honor on Monday at both Brandeis and Northeastern University.

"While this holiday may be difficult, it is my hope that spending time with loved ones will help us begin to heal," Liebowitz said. "When we return from the break, I know our community will continue to come together in support of one another."

No charges have been made at this time and initial investigation suggests the bus did not roll over at the time of the crash. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Waltham Police at (781) 314-3600
